Video Game dan Iman Katolik: Studi Kualitatif ‘That Dragon, Cancer’ pada Kalangan Misdinar di Kota Batam

Abstrak

Video game merupakan sarana hiburan khususnya di kalangan anak-anak dan remaja, termasuk misdinar. Beberapa video game menggunakan narasi sebagai dialog untuk menyampaikan cerita dalam video game. Salah satu video game yang banyak berfokus pada narasi adalah video game That Dragon, Cancer. Video game ini menceritakan sebuah keluarga yang memiliki seorang anak yang menderita kanker otak. Dalam video game tersebut, ditampilkan perjuangan setiap anggota keluarga menghadapinya dalam sajian visual yang surreal dan penuh teka-teki. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan apakah dengan memainkan video game That Dragon, Cancer dapat menginspirasi pandangan positif tentang iman Katolik di kalangan misdinar. Penelitian ini melibatkan 30 orang misdinar yang semuanya memainkan video game tersebut tanpa konteks dan kemudian diwawancarai. Temuan penelitian mendapati bahwa video game That Dragon, Cancer mampu menciptakan pandangan positif tentang iman Katolik melalui narasi dan desain video game, serta menunjukkan kepada kita untuk menerima kematian dan percaya kepada Tuhan.
